Effects of Local Temperature Variation on Ventricular Fibrillation Dominant Frequency

چکیده
By inducing controlled changes in the electrophysiologic properties of the whole heart, numerous studies have analysed the onset and maintenance mechanisms of ventricular arrhythmias. In this contribution a new method that cause local heterogeneities in the cardiac tissue is explained. A specific device, based on the Peltier effect, has been developed to quantify, in an experimental model (Langendorff-perfused), the temperature dependence of the dominant frequency (DF) during ventricular fibrillation (VF). This device performs changes of temperature above and below the basal value. With a drop of temperature, a valuable decrease of DF in the affected area, was observed. The differences between every step and control (37oC) were significant, and the correlation of DF with temperature was high. At 42oC the fibrillation signals showed the main degree of organization, and the highest DF value.

[Time-frequency analysis of ventricular fibrillation. An experimental study].
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES The analysis of frequency variability during ventricular fibrillation has yielded inconsistent results. We used an experimental model of ventricular fibrillation, with a short timescale, to analyze variations in frequency and their associated spatial distribution. METHODS Epicardial recordings of ventricular fibrillation were made in 10 perfused isolated rabbit hea...
متن کاملModulation of extracellular atrioventricular node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm by morphine in experimental atrial fibrillation in isolated rabbit heart
Introduction: Endorphins are produced by cardiomyocytes, and exert different effects on the heart. The aim of the present study is to assess morphine effects on extracellular atrioventricular (AV) node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm of isolated rabbit heart during experimental atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Effects of different concentrations of morphine (10, 20, 50 and 1...
متن کاملSUDDEN VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION DURING CATHE TERIZATION DUE TO LIDOCAINE INFILTRATION FOR LOCAL ANESTHESIA IN A 53 YEAR OLD WOMAN
Mrs. Heidari, 53 developed ventricular fibrillation and cardiopulmonary arrest after receiving 15 mL lidocaine 2% for local anesthesia at the Dr. Shariati Hospital Cathlab. There was no identified risk factor for her arrest preoperatively. She had a history of exertional chest pain for about 5 years and an electrocardiogram showed only inverted T-waves at the time of angiography. The case i...
متن کاملEffects of acute reduction of temperature on ventricular fibrillation activation patterns.
Because of its electrophysiological effects, hypothermia can influence the mechanisms that intervene in the sustaining of ventricular fibrillation. We hypothesized that a rapid and profound reduction of myocardial temperature impedes the maintenance of ventricular fibrillation, leading to termination of the arrhythmia. High-resolution epicardial mapping (series 1; n = 11) and transmural recordi...
متن کاملEffects of blockade of fast and slow inward current channels on ventricular fibrillation in the pig heart.
OBJECTIVE To determine the contribution of fast and slow inward channels to the electrocardiogram (ECG) of ventricular fibrillation. METHODS Ventricular fibrillation was induced by endocardial electrical stimulation in pigs anaesthetised with pentobarbitone sodium (30 mg/kg intravenously). ECGs simultaneously recorded from the body surface (lead II) and from the endocardium were studied by po...
